What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding is the process of protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults from harm. It includes preventing harm from happening, as well as identifying and reporting abuse and neglect. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, but there are some people who have a specific duty of care, such as football coaches, teachers, social workers and healthcare professionals.
Safeguarding can be complex and challenging, but it is essential to protect the most vulnerable people in our society. There are a number of things that can be done to safeguard children and vulnerable adults, such as:
- Creating a safe environment
- Educating people about the signs of abuse & neglect.
- Developing procedures for reporting & responding to concerns.
- Working with other organizations to share information & best practice.
If you are concerned about the safety of a child or vulnerable adult, it is important to report your concerns to the appropriate authority. This could be the child's social worker, the police, or the local safeguarding board.
